Dr. Wang Xiaoyan
Vitiligo, also known as leukoderma, mainly presents with the following symptoms: 1. Skin white patches: Patients develop irregularly shaped, poorly demarcated white or pale patches on their skin. These patches can appear on any part of the body but are most commonly found on exposed areas such as the face, hands, feet, arms, and legs. 2. Whitening of hair: Due to the loss of pigment cells in the depigmented areas, hair follicles in these regions are also affected, resulting in whitening or graying of the hair within the affected patches. 3. No subjective symptoms: The white patches on vitiligo patients are typically smooth and do not cause pain or itching. However, some patients may experience mild burning or tingling sensations. 4. Psychological impact: Vitiligo not only affects a patient's appearance but may also lead to psychological problems such as pessimism, disappointment, depression, and anxiety, which in severe cases can even cause insomnia. 5. Other symptoms: Some patients may also develop mucosal leukoderma, symptoms of neurasthenia, and symptoms related to autoimmune diseases, such as fatigue, muscle pain, and joint swelling.
