What are the causes of leukoplakia?
Recently, someone around me has developed white patches on the skin. What are the causes of vitiligo?

The main causes of white patches (leukoderma) can be summarized as follows:
1. Genetic factors: Individuals with a family history of vitiligo have a higher risk of developing the condition.
2. Autoimmunity: Abnormal immune responses may lead to the production of antibodies targeting melanocytes, causing damage or destruction of these pigment-producing cells.
3. Neurological and psychological factors: Emotional stress, trauma, anxiety, or other psychological disturbances may trigger or exacerbate the condition.
4. Environmental factors: Prolonged exposure to certain chemicals, such as cosmetics or hair dyes, or excessive ultraviolet radiation, may damage the skin and lead to the formation of white patches.
5. Immune system dysfunction: Dysregulation of the immune system can result in the attack and loss of melanocytes, leading to depigmentation and the appearance of white patches. For example, vitiligo is a common acquired pigmentary skin disorder characterized by well-defined white patches on the skin.
6. Other factors: Infections, physical trauma, and excessive sun exposure may also act as triggering factors for the development of white patches.
Common treatment options include laser therapy, oral or topical medications, and phototherapy. Psychological adjustment and maintaining a positive mental attitude are also important during treatment to promote recovery.
