Can people with gout eat avocados?
Disease description:
I usually eat avocado in the morning to keep myself full. My gout has flared up in the past few days, and I would like to know, is it okay for someone with gout to eat avocado?
Gout patients can consume avocados in moderation, but should pay attention to controlling the intake. Avocado is a nutrient-rich fruit containing various vitamins, fats, proteins, and trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. Additionally, it has low purine content, with purine levels between 0–25 mg per 100 grams, classifying it as a low-purine food. Moderate consumption will not significantly affect uric acid levels in gout patients. However, avocados also contain high levels of fat and calories; excessive consumption may lead to fat accumulation, which is unfavorable for weight control in gout patients, and could potentially increase blood lipid levels. Therefore, gout patients should consume avocados in moderation and avoid excessive intake of other high-fat, high-calorie foods at the same time. Furthermore, gout patients should also avoid high-purine foods such as seafood and animal offal, strictly abstain from alcohol, and limit consumption of fruit juices high in fructose.
