Can people with gout eat lamb skewers?
Disease description:
I used to really enjoy eating barbecue, but after being diagnosed with gout, I stopped eating lamb skewers. I would like to ask, can patients with gout eat lamb skewers?
Patients with gout are not advised to eat lamb skewers, primarily due to their high purine content. Lamb itself is considered a high-purine food, and the process of making lamb skewers, particularly grilling, may further increase their salt content, which can negatively affect uric acid levels. The purine content in lamb skewers may reach 60–223 mg per 100 grams, far exceeding the daily purine intake limit for patients with gout. After consumption of high-purine foods, purines are metabolized into uric acid in the body, increasing uric acid levels in patients with gout and potentially triggering or worsening gout symptoms. Therefore, to manage their condition, patients with gout should avoid high-purine foods such as lamb skewers and choose instead low-purine, bland, and easily digestible foods to maintain stable uric acid levels.
