Can I eat raw garlic with gout?
Disease description:
I usually eat garlic regularly, and I really enjoy its strong flavor. However, I've recently developed gout and would like to ask: Is it okay for someone with gout to eat raw garlic?

Gout patients are not advised to consume raw garlic, mainly for the following reasons:
1. Purine content: Although the exact purine content of garlic varies among different sources, raw garlic is generally considered to be a moderate-purine food. For individuals with gout, consuming foods with moderate purine levels may elevate uric acid levels in the body, thereby worsening gout symptoms.
2. Drug interactions: Certain components in raw garlic may interact with medications used to treat gout, affecting drug metabolism and absorption, and consequently reducing treatment effectiveness.
3. Irritancy: Raw garlic is highly irritating. Excessive consumption may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, such as abdominal pain and bloating. For gout patients, especially during an acute attack, this irritation may exacerbate the inflammatory response in the joints, leading to increased pain.
