What does Hashimoto's disease refer to?
Disease description:
I have been losing weight severely recently, and after an examination, I was told that I have Hashimoto's disease. I really want to ask the doctor what Hashimoto's disease refers to?

Hashimoto's disease, also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, is an autoimmune thyroid disorder.
The main characteristic of Hashimoto's disease is autoimmune antibody attack on thyroid tissue, leading to destruction of the thyroid gland and potentially resulting in hypothyroidism.
The disease can be triggered by multiple factors, including genetic predisposition, autoimmune damage, pernicious anemia, and adrenal insufficiency. It commonly occurs in middle-aged women between 40 and 50 years old. Symptoms may include diffuse goiter, localized dull pain, general weakness, easy fatigue, cold intolerance, weight gain, and memory impairment.
Diagnosis of Hashimoto's disease requires evaluation of thyroid function tests and thyroid color ultrasound imaging. Treatment options include general management, pharmacotherapy, and surgical intervention.
