Behçet's disease, also known as Behçet's syndrome, is a systemic immune system disorder that belongs to the category of vasculitis. Its exact cause is not fully understood and may be related to multiple factors such as genetics, infections, and environmental influences. Behçet's disease can affect multiple organs in the body, including the mouth, skin, joints and muscles, eyes, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and the nervous system. The main symptoms of this disease include recurrent oral and genital ulcers, skin rashes, erythema nodosum on the lower limbs, uveitis (inflammation of the iris of the eye), esophageal ulcers, small intestine or colonic ulcers, and joint swelling and pain. In terms of diagnosis, it primarily relies on clinical symptoms such as oral ulcers recurring at least three times per year, genital ulcers, uveitis, skin lesions, and a positive pathergy (skin prick) test.
