Disease description:

I am 23 years old this year. Recently, while attending school, I have been experiencing severe itching in my feet. I feel better only after scratching them. I visited the school clinic and was diagnosed with tinea pedis (athlete's foot). I would like to know how to treat it. How is tinea pedis treated?

The treatment of tinea manuum and tinea pedis mainly includes medication and lifestyle adjustments. Regarding medication, depending on the type and severity of the infection, topical antifungal creams (such as terbinafine cream or ketoconazole cream) or oral antifungal medications (such as itraconazole or terbinafine) may be selected. For vesicular and erosive types of tinea pedis, a boric acid solution may first be applied as a wet compress to reduce inflammation, followed by application of the medicated cream. Hyperkeratotic types require the addition of keratolytic agents, such as salicylic acid ointment. In terms of lifestyle, it is important to keep the hands and feet clean and dry, avoid prolonged immersion in water, and regularly change and sun-expose socks and shoes to reduce fungal growth. Additionally, sharing towels, slippers, or other personal items with others should be avoided to prevent transmission of infection.
