Will HPV infection recur after recovery?
I was previously infected with HPV. It has been a year since my last recurrence and I am now cured, but I am very concerned that HPV might recur after recovery. I would like to ask, is it possible to experience recurrent HPV infection after recovery?
HPV (human papillomavirus) infection is usually associated with sexual activity. Particularly, some high-risk types of HPV can cause cervical cancer and other types of cancer. After HPV infection, the body's immune system is often able to clear most low-risk types of the virus, especially during the initial infection. In such cases, reinfection with the same HPV type usually does not occur after recovery.
However, the human body may not be able to eliminate all types of HPV, especially certain high-risk types, which can persist for many years and even cause disease long after the initial infection. Additionally, although the immune system may have developed resistance to a specific type of HPV, it does not prevent reinfection with other HPV types that the person has not previously encountered. Therefore, even if someone has had an HPV infection and recovered, they may still get reinfected with a new or different type of HPV. If you have any concerns, please consult a healthcare provider.
