Causes of Menstrual Blood Clots
Disease description:
Recently, I have been experiencing blood clots during my menstrual period. May I ask, what are the causes of menstrual blood clots?
It is normal to experience blood clots during menstruation. This primarily occurs because some tissue fragments do not fully liquefy during the shedding of the endometrium, resulting in the formation of blood clots. Normally, these clots are formed from coagulated blood, especially when menstrual flow is heavy. The blood may not have sufficient time to mix before leaving the body, making it more prone to clot formation. Additionally, changes in hormone levels may affect the intensity of uterine contractions; strong contractions can rapidly expel large pieces of the endometrium, leading to the formation of larger blood clots. If blood clots are accompanied by pain, abnormally prolonged menstruation, or excessive bleeding, they may indicate gynecological conditions such as uterine fibroids, hormonal imbalances, or endometriosis. In such cases, prompt consultation with a doctor for evaluation and treatment is advised.
