Treatment of Chronic Prostatitis
Recently, during a medical checkup, I was diagnosed with prostatitis, specifically chronic prostatitis. I would like to ask the doctor, what are the treatment options available for chronic prostatitis?
Chronic prostatitis is a common urological condition in men. Treatments for chronic prostatitis include the following:
1. Lifestyle modifications: Avoid prolonged sitting, reduce intake of spicy foods, quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption, and maintain regular sexual activity to reduce the burden on the prostate and promote recovery.
2. Medication therapy: Antibiotics are the primary treatment for bacterial chronic prostatitis and should be selected based on results of antibiotic sensitivity testing. For non-bacterial chronic prostatitis, alpha-1 blockers, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and other medications may be used to relieve symptoms such as pain and difficulty urinating.
3. Local treatments: Prostate massage can help expel inflammatory secretions, and thermotherapy may relieve local pain. Additionally, medications may be directly injected into the prostate or administered via the urethra, vas deferens, or rectum.
4. Psychological therapy: Patients with chronic prostatitis often experience anxiety, depression, and other emotional issues. Psychological counseling and relaxation training can effectively improve the patient's mental state.
