Under normal circumstances, mustard does not contain high levels of purines.

Purines are organic compounds widely present in the human and animal bodies and are one of the products of protein metabolism. In the diet, high-purine foods mainly include organ meats, seafood, red meat, and others. The purines in these foods are metabolized in the human body into uric acid, and excessive intake of high-purine foods by individuals with gout or hyperuricemia may trigger gout attacks or worsen their condition.

Mustard is primarily made by grinding mustard seeds and has relatively low purine content, making it relatively safe for gout patients to consume in moderation. Although mustard itself does not contain high levels of purines, it does have certain irritant properties, and excessive consumption may irritate the gastric mucosa and cause discomfort. Therefore, when consuming mustard, moderation should also be practiced to avoid adverse effects on the body.

Patients with gout or hyperuricemia should pay attention to controlling intake of high-purine foods in daily life and maintain good living habits. When consuming any food, the principles of moderation and balance should be followed to maintain good health.
