Beer mainly consists of maltose and alcohol, with maltose belonging to carbohydrates and containing relatively high sugar content and calories. Alcohol itself does not directly raise blood sugar levels, but in the liver, it can interfere with the normal process of glucose production, especially potentially causing hypoglycemia when consumed on an empty stomach. However, the carbohydrates in beer are rapidly absorbed after consumption and may cause a temporary increase in blood glucose levels.

When beer consumption is limited, the sugar content typically does not cause significant effects on blood sugar levels. However, excessive beer consumption may elevate blood glucose due to its high maltose content. Additionally, the alcohol component in beer can stimulate pancreatic function and affect the normal metabolism and excretion of insulin, thereby indirectly influencing blood sugar levels. Individuals with weaker blood sugar regulation, such as diabetic patients, are more susceptible to blood sugar imbalances after drinking beer, which may lead to abnormal increases in blood glucose.

It is recommended to drink alcohol in moderation to avoid adverse effects caused by excessive consumption.
