What blood type will a child have if one parent has type A blood and the other has type B blood?
I am 25 years old this year. My own blood type is type A, and my husband's blood type is type B. I would like to know what blood type our child would have if a parent with type A and a parent with type B have a child.
Children born to parents with blood type A and blood type B can have blood type A, B, O, or AB.
When a sperm or egg from a person with blood type A combines with a sperm or egg from another person with blood type A, the child will have blood type A.
When a sperm or egg from a person with blood type A combines with a sperm or egg from a person with blood type B, the child may have blood type AB.
Additionally, since individuals with blood type A or B can carry the recessive gene for blood type O, when an individual with blood type A (or B) mates with an individual with blood type B (or A) who also carries the O gene, the child's blood type may be A or B. If both parents contribute the O gene, the child will have blood type O.
