How to Treat Wrist Pain Most Effectively
After rushing to finish a day's worth of work, I developed wrist pain. What is the fastest way to treat it?
Quick relief methods for wrist pain depend on the cause of the pain. Common treatments include:
1. Rest: Stop all activities that may exacerbate wrist pain and avoid repetitive use of the injured wrist.
2. Ice application: Apply ice packs for 15-20 minutes at a time, 3-4 times daily, within the first 48 hours after pain and swelling occur to reduce inflammation and pain.
3. Compression: Wrap the wrist gently with an elastic bandage to reduce swelling, but ensure it is not too tight to impair circulation.
4. Elevation: Keep the wrist positioned above heart level as much as possible to help reduce swelling.
5. Medication: Oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen capsules or nimesulide capsules, can be used. Topical anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medications, such as Voltaren ointment or Yunnan Baiyao, may also help alleviate inflammation and pain.
6. Physical therapy: Treatments such as acupuncture, massage, and physiotherapy can improve local blood circulation, relieve pain, and ease muscle tension.
7. Targeted treatment: If the pain is caused by tendon sheath inflammation, local corticosteroid injections may be administered. In cases of fracture or dislocation, reduction, immobilization, or surgical treatment should be performed according to the specific situation.
