What causes pain in the finger joints?
After playing the guzheng for a prolonged period, a painful sensation may develop in the finger joints. Why does this happen?
Finger joint pain is a common symptom that can be caused by various factors.
1. Gout: Patients with gout experience elevated uric acid levels in the body, leading to deposition of urate crystals in the finger joints, causing joint pain, often accompanied by redness and swelling.
2. Rheumatic diseases: According to TCM syndrome differentiation, rheumatic diseases can cause dampness invasion in the finger joints, resulting in pain. Appropriate massage of the finger joints may help alleviate symptoms.
3. Osteophytosis (bone spurs): Commonly occurs in the distal finger joints, leading to joint enlargement and pain. Patients may experience joint stiffness upon waking up in the morning.
4. Osteoarthritis: More prevalent among middle-aged and elderly individuals, osteoarthritis is caused by wear and tear of the joint cartilage. It commonly affects the distal and proximal interphalangeal joints of the fingers, presenting as joint pain, swelling, and limited movement.
5. Tendinitis: Overuse or repetitive movements can cause inflammation of the finger tendons, resulting in pain and discomfort. This condition is common among individuals who perform frequent fine hand movements, such as musicians and typists.
6. Strain: Long-term manual labor leading to finger joint strain can also cause pain.
7. Trauma and fractures: Impact or sprains to the fingers can result in joint fractures or soft tissue injuries, causing pain.
