Possible common causes of pain in the middle of the ribs:

1. Physiological factors: Prolonged sitting, lack of physical activity, excessive fatigue, high work or life stress, strenuous exercise, exposure to cold, long-term sleep deprivation, and insufficient rest can all potentially lead to muscle strain or spasm in the middle of the rib area, causing pain. This type of pain generally subsides on its own after rest.

2. Muscle or soft tissue injury: This is one of the most common causes, possibly resulting from overuse, sports injuries, improper posture, or physical strain. For example, activities such as housework, weightlifting, or intense exercise may strain the intercostal muscles or tendons.

3. Rib fracture: A severe impact or pressure, such as from a car accident, fall, or direct blow to the chest, may cause a rib fracture. The pain is typically localized at the site of injury and worsens during deep breathing or coughing.

4. Intercostal neuralgia: Conditions such as thoracic vertebral fracture, thoracic tuberculosis, or pleurisy may cause inflammation of the intercostal nerves, resulting in pain due to inflammatory irritation. This pain typically presents as a stabbing or burning sensation and becomes more pronounced during coughing, deep breathing, or sneezing.

5. Costochondritis: Costochondritis may be caused by a viral infection or chest trauma, leading to pain in the middle of the ribs. The pain may intensify upon pressing the area and may be accompanied by an elevated body temperature.
