Seborrheic dermatitis, also known as seborrheic eczema, is a common chronic skin condition that tends to occur in areas with numerous sebaceous glands, such as the scalp, face (especially the sides of the nose and between the eyebrows), behind the ears, chest, and upper back. Its symptoms include:

1. Itching: Patients often experience varying degrees of itching, which may worsen at night.

2. Scaling: The surface of the patches is covered with oily or dry yellowish to whitish scales, more noticeable and thicker than regular dandruff.

3. Erythema: Affected areas show red or pink patches.

4. Inflammation: In severe cases, the affected areas may exhibit mild swelling and inflammation, sometimes accompanied by pain.

5. Hair involvement: On the scalp, seborrheic dermatitis can cause excessively oily hair and may even lead to hair loss, although this type of hair loss is generally not permanent.

6. Skin manifestations: In skin folds such as the armpits and groin, the skin may appear moist, with redness and erosion.

Symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis may vary with the seasons, often worsening in winter and improving in summer. If you experience related symptoms, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly.
