In pediatric clinical practice, lactoferrin is often recommended as a nutritional supplement to enhance infants' immunity and promote intestinal health. The following points should be noted when using lactoferrin:

1. Avoid taking with certain foods: Lactoferrin should not be consumed with calcium- and magnesium-rich foods such as milk and legumes, as these minerals may react with lactoferrin and affect its absorption.

2. Cautious use in specific populations: Infants with dairy allergies or severe gastrointestinal issues should use lactoferrin with special caution to avoid allergic reactions or worsening of gastrointestinal symptoms.

3. Age restrictions: Lactoferrin is suitable as a complementary food for infants older than 6 months; early supplementation may cause indigestion.

4. Drug interactions: Lactoferrin may affect the absorption and metabolism of certain medications, such as iron supplements and antibiotics; consultation with a physician is advised during medication use.

5. Avoid long-term or excessive use: Although lactoferrin has benefits, it is not recommended for long-term or excessive use, as it may interfere with the infant's natural immune function.

6. Timing of administration: During episodes of infant cold, fever, or diarrhea, it is recommended to temporarily discontinue lactoferrin supplementation to avoid exacerbating the condition.

Although lactoferrin offers benefits in enhancing infant immunity, its use should follow medical advice, taking into account the infant's health status and individual differences to avoid hidden risks.
