I live in a coastal area where there are plenty of seafood options available. I personally enjoy eating shrimp very much and often buy fresh shrimp to cook at home. However, I would like to know what foods should not be consumed together with shrimp.

Shrimp should not be consumed with the following foods:

1. Foods rich in vitamin C: such as lemon, citrus fruits, tomatoes, etc. This is because shrimp contains a certain amount of pentavalent arsenic, which can be converted into toxic trivalent arsenic (arsenic trioxide, or砒霜) when combined with large amounts of vitamin C, potentially harming human health.

2. Foods high in tannic acid: such as persimmons and tea. The protein in shrimp may combine with tannic acid to form substances that are difficult to digest, causing gastrointestinal discomfort. However, as long as consumption is not excessive, serious problems typically do not occur.

3. Allergens: Individuals allergic to shrimp should avoid consuming shrimp and foods containing shrimp ingredients. Allergic reactions may include symptoms such as rash and difficulty breathing, and in severe cases, can even be life-threatening.

4. High-calcium foods: The shrimp shell contains a certain amount of calcium; consuming it in large quantities together with other high-calcium foods might theoretically affect calcium absorption. However, for most people, moderate consumption poses no significant problem.

In addition, when consuming shrimp, one should also pay attention to moderation to avoid excessive intake that could burden the gastrointestinal system.
