Recently, I found my blood sugar levels to be somewhat elevated. However, I really crave persimmons that I see by the roadside. I would like to ask the doctor: is it okay to eat persimmons when blood sugar is high?

If blood sugar is well controlled, it is acceptable to consume persimmons in moderation.

Patients with high blood sugar need to pay particular attention to their diet in order to manage blood glucose levels. Persimmons are a fruit containing a certain amount of sugar, but they are also rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Whether individuals with elevated blood sugar can consume persimmons mainly depends on their individual blood glucose control and the quantity consumed. Persimmons have a relatively high sugar content, which may cause blood sugar levels to rise. For patients whose blood sugar is already elevated, eating persimmons might further exacerbate blood sugar fluctuations and be detrimental to disease management. If a patient's blood sugar levels are relatively stable—for example, fasting blood glucose around 7 mmol/L and postprandial 2-hour blood glucose around 10 mmol/L—then persimmons may be consumed in moderation, with a recommended portion no larger than half the size of a clenched fist. If a patient's blood sugar fluctuates greatly or is poorly controlled, persimmons should be avoided to prevent a rapid increase in blood sugar. Additionally, blood sugar levels should be monitored after consumption to ensure they remain within a safe range.

Patients with high blood sugar are not absolutely prohibited from eating persimmons, but they should choose varieties carefully, preferably opting for firm (less ripe) persimmons rather than soft (fully ripe) ones, as the former contain less sugar and are more suitable for individuals with high blood sugar. Portion control is also important, along with close monitoring of glycemic response.
