How to treat a wasp sting
What should I do if a family member is stung by a wasp?
After being stung by a wasp, the following steps should be taken immediately:
1. Remove the stinger
Scrape off the stinger with a stiff card or fingernail. Avoid using tweezers, as this may squeeze more venom into the skin.
2. Clean the wound
Wash the affected area with soap, vinegar, or water to reduce the risk of infection.
3. Apply cold compress
Use an ice pack or cold water to reduce pain and swelling.
4. Medication
If symptoms are severe, topical anti-inflammatory and antibacterial medications such as erythromycin ointment may be used under a doctor's guidance. If an allergic reaction occurs, including skin rash, itching, chest tightness, or difficulty breathing, antiallergic medications should be administered promptly.
If severe discomfort occurs, seek medical attention immediately.
