Symptoms of Threatened Miscarriage
A friend of mine is pregnant, but she suddenly experienced abdominal pain this morning. She is worried it might be a threatened miscarriage. What are the symptoms of a threatened miscarriage?

The symptoms of threatened miscarriage include vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, passage of tissue, persistent pressure in the lower abdomen, and changes in vaginal discharge.
1. Vaginal bleeding: The amount of bleeding may vary from slight pink or brownish discharge to bleeding similar to that experienced during menstruation. The color may be dark red or bright red, but is usually brownish in appearance.
2. Abdominal pain: Pregnant women may experience abdominal pain of varying intensity, which may be a dull ache or severe cramping pain.
3. Passage of tissue: Pregnant women may pass some tissue-like material through the vagina, which could be part of the embryonic tissue or other pregnancy-related substances.
4. Persistent pressure in the lower abdomen: Pregnant women may feel a constant downward pressure, similar to the sensation of needing to use the bathroom, although there is no actual urge to urinate or have a bowel movement.
5. Changes in vaginal discharge: Pregnant women may experience other types of abnormal vaginal discharge, such as an increase in the amount of discharge, or changes in its color or odor.
If these symptoms occur, especially during early pregnancy, the pregnant woman should promptly contact her doctor for evaluation and necessary treatment.
