What causes rosacea?
I have recently developed persistent facial redness, especially on both sides of the nasal wings and the cheeks, accompanied by visible dilated capillaries. Occasionally, pustules also appear. After some preliminary research, I suspect that I might be suffering from rosacea. Could you please explain what causes rosacea?
Condition Analysis: Rosacea, also known as acne rosacea, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition with multiple causes. Based on your described symptoms, such as persistent facial erythema, telangiectasia, and pustules, these are consistent with typical manifestations of rosacea.
Triggers for rosacea mainly include genetic factors, diet and environment, skin barrier damage, and microbial infections.
Rosacea tends to cluster in families, indicating an important role of genetic factors in its development. Long-term consumption of spicy or irritating foods, and exposure to harsh environments, such as intense ultraviolet radiation and drastic climate changes, may trigger or exacerbate rosacea. Over-cleansing, improper skincare practices, and misuse of corticosteroid-containing skincare products can impair the skin barrier function, allowing external irritants to penetrate the skin more easily and provoke inflammatory responses. Overgrowth of Demodex mites on the face and the subsequent bacterial-mediated inflammatory reactions are among the key causes of rosacea.
Recommendations: For your condition, we recommend seeking timely medical consultation for a comprehensive skin examination and evaluation. Treatment options may include topical medications and, if necessary, laser therapy, such as fusidic acid cream, adapalene gel, and leucojum aestivum extract cream. In daily life, avoid consuming spicy or irritating foods, and eat more vegetables and fruits to maintain a balanced diet. Choose mild facial cleansers and skincare products, avoid excessive cleansing, and refrain from misusing corticosteroid-containing skincare products. When outdoors, take sun protection measures to avoid direct UV exposure, and maintain a balanced level of moisture and oil on your skin.
