How to treat foot pain
Some foot pain affects walking. I tried hot compresses, but the effect was not obvious. I would like to know, apart from taking medication, what other effective treatments are available? Is further examination necessary?
For acute sprains or minor strains, the RICE principle can be applied initially: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. If pain persists, X-rays or other imaging examinations may be needed to rule out fractures, dislocations, or other conditions.
For chronic foot pain, such as plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis, physical therapy can be tried, including heat application, massage, stretching, and strengthening exercises. Wearing appropriate footwear and using orthotic insoles can also help relieve symptoms. For more severe pain, oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, may be used for treatment. Additionally, topical Chinese herbal ointments that promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, reduce swelling, and relieve pain can be used as adjunctive therapy.
For foot pain caused by flat feet, using foot supports and insoles can help reduce the load on the heel. Foot pain caused by conditions such as diabetic foot or lumbar disc herniation requires treatment targeting the underlying disease. Specific treatment methods should be determined based on the patient's individual circumstances and the recommendations of a physician.
