Dr. Bai Hongmei

The normal value for fasting blood glucose in the morning is generally between 3.9 and 6.1 mmol/L.

This standard applies to healthy adults in general. However, the normal range for fasting blood glucose is influenced by multiple factors, including age, gender, race, and lifestyle. With increasing age, the normal fasting blood glucose level in the morning may slightly rise. Different age groups and individuals with different health conditions, such as pregnant women and patients with diabetes, may have varying ideal blood glucose control targets. Additionally, fasting blood glucose measurements should be taken after at least 8 hours without food intake, and without having engaged in strenuous physical activity or been exposed to stressful emotional states, to ensure accurate results. If the morning fasting blood glucose concentration exceeds 6.1 mmol/L but is below 7.0 mmol/L, this may indicate that blood glucose levels are in the borderline abnormal range, necessitating further examination and evaluation. If the fasting blood glucose concentration reaches or exceeds 7.0 mmol/L, this is usually diagnosed as diabetes.
