
Normal Blood Sugar Levels for Pregnant Women
Recently, I found out I'm pregnant and my blood sugar levels seem a bit abnormal. May I ask, what is the normal blood sugar range for pregnant women?

Typically, fasting blood glucose levels in pregnant women should be maintained between 3.1 and 5.1 mmol/L. If a pregnant woman has already been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, her fasting blood glucose should be controlled to not exceed 5.3 mmol/L. Postprandial blood glucose one hour after meals should be below 10.0 mmol/L, and two hours after meals should be below 8.5 mmol/L. For individuals with gestational diabetes, the two-hour postprandial blood glucose level should be controlled to not exceed 6.7 mmol/L.
These values are stricter than the standards for non-pregnant women, aiming to reduce the impact of hyperglycemia on the fetus, such as the risks of macrosomia, preterm birth, and neonatal hypoglycemia. However, blood glucose monitoring in pregnant women should be combined with individual conditions, with dietary, exercise, or medication treatment plans adjusted under a physician's guidance to achieve optimal glycemic control. In addition, regular prenatal checkups and blood glucose monitoring are essential components of prenatal care, helping to promptly detect and manage abnormalities to ensure maternal and fetal safety. Pregnant women should also undergo regular glucose tolerance tests to more accurately assess their blood glucose status.
