Gout patients should strictly limit alcohol intake.

1. Relationship between alcohol and uric acid: Alcohol is one of the important triggers for gout attacks. It increases the production of uric acid in the body while decreasing its excretion, leading to elevated blood uric acid levels, which can trigger or worsen gout symptoms. In addition, alcohol promotes purine metabolism, resulting in increased uric acid production and further exacerbating the gout condition.

2. Effects of different types of alcoholic beverages: Spirits, beer, and red wine all contain purines, with spirits and beer having relatively higher purine content. Patients with gout are not advised to consume these two types of alcoholic beverages.

Strict control of alcohol consumption: If alcohol consumption cannot be completely avoided, men should not exceed two standard drinks per day and women should not exceed one standard drink per day.

3. Consequences of alcohol consumption: Drinking alcohol may lead to fluctuations in blood uric acid levels, acute attacks of arthritis, kidney damage, increased risk of cardiovascular events, and worsening of metabolic syndrome.

4. Treatment and diet: Gout patients should follow prescribed medication regimens and strictly adhere to a low-purine diet, avoiding high-purine foods such as seafood, organ meats, and other similar items.
