In general, the occurrence of ichthyosis does not discriminate by gender.

Ichthyosis is a hereditary skin disorder caused by gene mutations that lead to abnormal metabolism of skin cells. Its main characteristic is the appearance of dry, thick, and scaly skin resembling fish scales. Ichthyosis includes several types, such as common ichthyosis (ichthyosis vulgaris) and congenital bullous ichthyosis. Among these, ichthyosis vulgaris is the most prevalent type, while other forms, such as X-linked recessive ichthyosis and lamellar ichthyosis, are relatively less common. This condition does not differentiate between genders; the likelihood of developing ichthyosis is nearly equal in males and females, and it is not more prevalent in females.

Generally speaking, women tend to pay more attention to skincare. Most women actively engage in skincare routines, such as moisturizing and sun protection, which help maintain healthy skin and reduce the risk of ichthyosis triggered by factors like dryness and UV damage.

If a patient develops symptoms of ichthyosis, timely medical consultation and treatment are essential. During treatment, patients should also maintain a positive mindset and actively participate in social activities to improve their quality of life.
