Dr. Zhang Lu

A small lump in the breast may be caused by a number of factors, including mammary nodules, mastopathy (breast hyperplasia), fibroadenoma of the breast, breast tuberculosis, or breast cysts.

1. Mammary nodule: A mammary nodule is a normal tissue structure within the breast and is relatively firm in texture. Therefore, if there is a hard lump in the breast that is painless, non-itchy, and without other discomfort, it may be a mammary nodule, which is considered normal.

2. Mastopathy (Breast hyperplasia): Breast hyperplasia is a common benign breast disease, often related to endocrine disorders. Elevated estrogen levels in the body can lead to excessive proliferation and incomplete regression of breast tissue, resulting in the formation of lumps.

3. Fibroadenoma of the breast: Fibroadenoma is the most common benign tumor of the breast, formed by the proliferation of breast epithelial and fibrous tissues.

4. Breast tuberculosis: Breast tuberculosis is a breast disease caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In the early stages, one or several nodules may develop in the breast, which are painless or non-tender, poorly demarcated from surrounding tissues, and often associated with skin adhesion.

5. Breast cyst: Breast cysts are mostly caused by blockage of the mammary ducts, resulting in milk or secretion retention and subsequent cyst formation. Small cysts can be monitored with regular follow-up examinations, while larger cysts or those causing symptoms may require surgical removal.

If you detect a lump in your breast, it is important to seek timely medical evaluation for professional diagnosis and appropriate treatment tailored to the underlying cause.
