What causes itching of the vulva?
Recently, my vulva has been extremely itchy, making me restless and very uncomfortable. I'd like to ask what might be causing this? Is it due to poor hygiene, or could I have contracted some kind of infection?

Vulvar itching is a common gynecological symptom that may be caused by various factors, including improper hygiene, allergies, skin diseases, and gynecological conditions.
Failure to maintain proper vulvar hygiene or excessive cleaning, using strongly alkaline soaps or potassium permanganate solution for washing, can all potentially cause vulvar itching. Over-cleansing or using irritating hygiene products, such as scented soaps and shower gels, may also disrupt the natural acid-base balance of the vagina and vulva, leading to itching.
Allergic reactions to semen, condoms, chemicals, or detergents can also cause vulvar itching. Skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or contact dermatitis may lead to vulvar itching as well. Gynecological conditions such as vaginitis, vulvitis, and pubic lice infestation can all cause vulvar itching. Vulvar itching may also be a sign of sexually transmitted diseases, such as genital herpes or genital warts.
It is recommended to seek timely medical attention for a thorough examination and diagnosis by a qualified physician to determine the exact cause and provide targeted treatment. Keep the vulva clean and dry, and avoid using irritating cleansers and cosmetics.
