Can double eyelid scars be treated with laser?
I am 34 years old this year. I had double eyelid surgery a few years ago, but it left scars. I would like to know whether laser treatment can be used to remove the scars from the double eyelid procedure.
In general, double eyelid scars can be treated with laser therapy. Laser treatment for double eyelid scars is an effective method that works by utilizing the photothermal effect of the laser to target and repair scar tissue.
For double eyelid scars in the proliferative phase, laser therapy can inhibit the excessive proliferation of fibroblasts and reduce the overproduction of collagen, thereby alleviating the degree of scar hypertrophy. The laser can make the scar relatively flatter and softer, and the color may gradually fade. Different types of lasers, such as pulsed dye lasers and ablative lasers, can produce varying reparative effects on scars.
For early scars formed shortly after double eyelid surgery, laser treatment is more effective and can prevent further scar development. For patients without a scar-prone constitution, laser treatment generally achieves satisfactory results. However, if the patient has a scar-prone constitution, laser therapy may not completely eliminate the scar, but it can still improve the scar's appearance to some extent.
Prior to treatment, a professional physician should evaluate the scar condition and determine the appropriate treatment plan. During the treatment process, patients need to take sun protection measures to avoid sun exposure that could worsen post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. After treatment, patients should follow medical advice for post-procedure care to promote skin recovery and achieve optimal cosmetic outcomes.
