Cephalosporins are a class of antibiotics available in various dosage forms such as tablets and capsules. Generally speaking, whether taking cephalosporins is effective for fluid accumulation in the uterine cavity (hydrometra) mainly depends on the specific cause of the hydrometra. If it is caused by bacterial infection, cephalosporins usually are effective; however, if the hydrometra results from non-bacterial infections, these antibiotics will not be effective.

When hydrometra is caused by bacterial infection, cephalosporins, as broad-spectrum antibiotics, demonstrate good antibacterial effects against many types of bacteria. If the causative pathogens of hydrometra are sensitive to cephalosporins, administration of these antibiotics can achieve certain therapeutic effects. However, antibiotic selection should be based on results of bacterial culture and drug sensitivity tests to ensure efficacy and prevent the development of drug resistance.

Conversely, if hydrometra is not caused by bacterial infection—for example, if it results from physiological factors such as menstruation or pregnancy, or non-infectious factors such as genital tract malformations or endometrial tuberculosis—cephalosporins will not provide therapeutic benefits. Moreover, hydrometra caused by neoplastic diseases such as uterine fibroids or cervical cysts cannot be effectively treated with cephalosporins, and alternative treatment methods should be followed as directed by a physician.

During treatment, patients should follow medical advice and undergo regular follow-up examinations to ensure effective disease control.
