Can I eat lard during a weight loss period?
I am a 30-year-old woman currently trying to lose weight by controlling my diet. Recently, I heard that lard is high in calories, but I find it very flavorful and would like to use it for cooking. I wonder if it is okay to consume lard while trying to lose weight?

During a weight loss period, you can consume lard in moderation, but intake must be strictly controlled. Lard is a high-calorie, high-fat food, with approximately 890 kcal per 100 grams, primarily composed of saturated fatty acids. While moderate intake of lard does not directly lead to weight gain, excessive consumption can easily result in excessive calorie intake, hindering the achievement of weight loss goals. Additionally, long-term excessive intake of saturated fats may have adverse effects on cardiovascular health; therefore, caution is advised during the weight loss process.
To better manage weight, it is recommended to prioritize healthier oils, such as olive oil and flaxseed oil, which are rich in unsaturated fatty acids. The frequency and amount of lard consumption should be reduced. If you particularly crave lard, it can occasionally be used in small quantities for flavoring rather than as the primary cooking oil. At the same time, attention should be paid to the overall dietary structure, with increased intake of foods rich in dietary fiber, such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, to enhance satiety and balance nutrient intake. Combining this with appropriate physical activity can further improve weight loss effectiveness.
