Can people with gout eat fatty meat?
Disease description:
I usually enjoy eating lard that I've rendered into cracklings; it's really delicious. However, I've had gout recently and would like to know—can I eat fatty pork when I have gout?

Gout patients are not advised to consume fatty meats, mainly for the following reasons:
1. **High fat content**: Fatty meats are rich in fat, especially saturated fatty acids. Excessive intake can lead to elevated blood lipid levels, impair lipid metabolism, and subsequently affect uric acid excretion, making it harder for gout patients to control their condition.
2. **High purine content**: Fatty meats are also high in purines. Purines are metabolized into uric acid in the body, which can increase uric acid levels in gout patients and potentially trigger or worsen gout symptoms.
3. **Impact on medication effectiveness**: Gout patients often require medication, and a high-fat diet may interfere with drug absorption and metabolism, reducing the effectiveness of the treatment.
