Does eating hot pot cause weight gain?
I have been trying to lose weight recently, but today a friend invited me to a hot pot meal. I'm wondering, can you gain weight from eating hot pot?
Whether hot pot leads to weight gain mainly depends on the choice of ingredients, cooking methods, and portion sizes. Hot pot itself can be a nutritious way of eating. If ingredients are properly selected and balanced—such as choosing low-fat, high-protein, and fiber-rich foods like lean meats, seafood, and vegetables—and if excessive oils and seasonings are avoided, moderate consumption of hot pot will not directly cause weight gain.
However, consuming large amounts of high-fat, high-calorie meats and processed foods, such as fatty beef, fatty lamb, and fried meatballs, while lacking vegetables and high-fiber foods, can easily lead to excessive caloric intake and subsequent weight gain. Many people tend to consume excessive calories while eating hot pot, particularly from high-fat meats, processed foods, oil-based dipping sauces, and sugary beverages. Overconsumption of these high-calorie foods, combined with a sedentary lifestyle, can easily result in a caloric surplus and thus contribute to weight gain.
Therefore, to maintain a healthy weight, it is important to pay attention to ingredient selection, the use of seasonings and oils, as well as controlling the frequency and portion sizes when consuming hot pot.
