Do dates cause weight gain?
I am currently trying to lose weight, and I enjoy eating dates regularly. May I ask if eating dates will cause weight gain?

Zizyphus jujuba (jujube) is itself a nutrient-rich fruit, abundant in vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. Moderate consumption is beneficial to health and generally does not lead to weight gain.
1. Jujubes have a relatively high sugar content; the caloric value of 100 grams of dried jujubes is approximately 260–300 kcal, which is significantly higher than that of the same weight of apples or bananas. Therefore, excessive intake without a corresponding increase in physical activity may result in excess energy consumption, thus leading to weight gain, especially for individuals managing their weight.
2. The nutritional value of jujubes cannot be overlooked, as they are rich in iron, which helps prevent anemia; they also contain high levels of vitamin C, which boosts immunity, and a certain amount of potassium, which helps maintain heart health.
Therefore, moderate consumption of jujubes typically does not cause weight gain, as the body normally utilizes the calories consumed. However, consuming excessive amounts of jujubes, especially dried jujubes with high sugar content, without increasing physical activity, may result in excess sugar being converted into fat, potentially leading to weight gain.
