How to Treat Elevated Lipoprotein(a)
Disease description:
I’m generally in good health, but I’m slightly overweight. During a recent lipid profile test at the hospital, my lipoprotein(a) level was found to be elevated. How should this be treated?
Patients are advised to consider pharmacological treatment aimed at lowering serum cholesterol levels. Additionally, strict dietary control is essential: high-fat foods—such as animal liver and fatty meats—should be avoided. Instead, patients should consume more vitamin-rich vegetables and fruits, and use plant-based oils for cooking. Regular physical activity is also strongly recommended, particularly aerobic exercise, to prevent excessive weight gain and obesity.
