Can scabies be cured?
Disease description:
My husband has developed scabies, and it hasn’t improved despite ongoing treatment. Can scabies be cured?
Scabies can be effectively treated, although treatment may take an extended period due to its tendency to recur. Scabies is a skin condition caused by infestation with the scabies mite (*Sarcoptes scabiei*). Topical application of sulfur ointment, as prescribed by a physician, combined with oral antihistamines, is commonly recommended; consistent adherence to this regimen typically leads to full recovery. Alternatively, ultraviolet (UV) irradiation therapy may be employed—approximately five sessions are usually sufficient to eradicate all mites. During treatment, bedding and linens at home should be washed and sun-dried frequently.
