Is it safe to eat undercooked beef?
Undercooked beef can be consumed, but for safety reasons, it is not recommended.
Consuming undercooked beef may impair digestion and reduce gastrointestinal tolerance, potentially leading to gastrointestinal dysfunction—including abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating, and indigestion—and placing additional strain on the gastrointestinal tract. Moreover, undercooked beef may harbor pathogenic bacteria; ingesting such beef may introduce these pathogens into the body, allowing them to proliferate and cause severe symptoms such as intense abdominal pain and diarrhea. In rare cases, serious complications—such as hemolytic uremic syndrome—may occur; however, the specific clinical manifestations vary among individuals.
Beef should ideally be thoroughly cooked before consumption. It is rich in protein and offers particular benefits for individuals experiencing lower back and knee weakness or lumbar and leg pain.
