How long is appropriate for walking after a cesarean section?
Under normal circumstances, it is appropriate for cesarean section patients to walk for about 30 minutes, but they should consult their doctor before getting out of bed.
About 24 hours after a cesarean delivery, the mother can begin light physical activity. If there was no significant bleeding during surgery and recovery is progressing well, normal walking is acceptable. However, if postoperative recovery is poor, the decision should be based on individual conditions. It is generally recommended to get out of bed and move around three to four times daily, walking for approximately 30 minutes each time.
After a cesarean section, fasting is required for the first six hours post-surgery because the procedure may irritate the intestines, weakening intestinal function and causing gas accumulation, which could lead to abdominal bloating. Therefore, eating should be avoided to prevent worsening of bloating symptoms. After the anesthetic wears off, the mother may experience pain, which can be alleviated by lying on her side. Placing a pillow or blanket behind the back helps minimize movement and reduces pulling pain at the incision site. Avoid vigorous physical activities to prevent injury during recovery.
