How far can a newborn baby see?
Newborn babies can generally see about 20 centimeters.
Immediately after birth, newborns can detect light and may even follow light sources with their eyes. The optimal distance at which they can clearly see objects is typically around 19–20 centimeters. As the days pass after birth, newborns gradually gain the ability to see farther. By one month of age, a newborn can usually see distances of approximately 40–50 centimeters. At birth, a baby's vision is not yet fully developed; however, visual capacity progressively improves with age. It is recommended to expose infants during daily life to brightly colored objects to stimulate visual development, which benefits their overall health.
Since all organs in a newborn are delicate—including the eyes—proper eye care is essential. Avoid exposing the baby's eyes to strong lights or direct sunlight, and refrain from taking the baby into areas with intense sun exposure to prevent potential eye damage.
