Introduction
Acyclovir eye drops should not be used casually. Although acyclovir eye drops are generally well-tolerated, they must still be used under a doctor's guidance. Random use should be avoided to prevent adverse reactions such as burning or irritation, conjunctival congestion, and follicular conjunctivitis. Moreover, inappropriate use of the medication may damage the structure and function of the ocular surface, leading to dry eye syndrome or even drug-induced toxic keratitis.

Acyclovir eye drops are broad-spectrum antiviral medications primarily used to treat herpes simplex keratitis. Although these eye drops are generally well tolerated, they must be used under a doctor's guidance and should not be administered arbitrarily, as this may lead to adverse reactions such as burning or irritation, conjunctival congestion, follicular conjunctivitis, eyelid allergies, lacrimal punctal blockage, and superficial punctate keratopathy. Moreover, inappropriate use may damage the structure and function of the ocular surface, trigger chronic inflammation, cause dry eye syndrome, or even lead to drug-induced toxic keratitis.

It is recommended to use acyclovir eye drops within 4 weeks after opening. Continued use beyond this period may result in adverse effects on the eyes. The medication is contraindicated in patients allergic to its components or those with severe complications. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use the medication with caution.
