Can you eat hard persimmons?
Whether hard persimmons can be eaten depends on the variety of the persimmon.
1. Edible
If the hard persimmon belongs to the crisp (non-astringent) variety, it is generally safe to eat. Crisp persimmons contain abundant dietary fiber, pectin, and other nutrients that help promote intestinal health and prevent constipation. They also support the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. Additionally, the various vitamins in crisp persimmons can help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood vessels, promoting healthy circulation and providing essential nutrients for the body.
2. Not edible
For common persimmon varieties that become soft when ripe, hard persimmons should not be consumed. Hardness indicates that the fruit is not fully matured and still contains high levels of tannins (鞣酸). Consuming such persimmons may increase the burden on the digestive system, potentially causing discomfort such as bloating and abdominal pain.
