Introduction
A child drooling at night may be caused by physiological or pathological factors. It could be due to a relatively small oral cavity, improper sleeping posture, or being in the tooth development stage. It might also result from a white candida infection causing oral thrush, leading to significant pain. Alternatively, it could be caused by bacterial, viral, or other pathogenic infections resulting in acute inflammation of the pharyngeal area, leading to pharyngitis.

Drooling in children at night may be caused by physiological factors or pathological conditions such as oral thrush or pharyngitis.

1. Physiological Factors

This may occur due to a relatively small oral cavity, improper sleeping posture leading to loose lip closure, or increased saliva production during the teething phase. These are normal physiological phenomena and typically do not require treatment.

2. Pathological Factors

1) Oral Thrush

Inadequate sterilization of eating utensils or excessive contact with others may lead to infection by Candida albicans, resulting in oral thrush. The associated pain can reduce the child's ability to swallow saliva. Maintaining good oral hygiene and taking vitamin C, vitamin B2, and vitamin B12 supplements as directed by a physician may help alleviate symptoms.

2) Pharyngitis

Bacterial or viral infections may cause acute inflammation in the pharyngeal area, leading to pharyngitis, accompanied by oral ulcers or blisters. Due to discomfort, the child may avoid swallowing saliva, causing excessive drooling. If caused by a viral infection, antiviral medications such as acyclovir tablets, ribavirin granules, or oseltamivir phosphate granules may be used to suppress the virus.

In addition, conditions such as hand, foot, and mouth disease that cause significant oral discomfort may also lead to excessive drooling. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation and receive appropriate treatment based on the underlying cause and pathogen type.
