Introduction
A gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) level of 68 U/L is not necessarily serious; the severity depends on the underlying cause. It may be mildly elevated due to long-term excessive alcohol consumption, certain medications, or a high-protein diet, which generally is not serious. However, if the elevation is caused by conditions such as extrahepatic bile duct obstruction, pancreatitis, or primary liver cancer, it could indicate a more serious condition.

Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) at 68 U/L is not necessarily serious; the severity depends on the underlying cause.

1. Not serious

The normal GGT level for males ranges from 11 to 50 U/L, and for females, from 7 to 32 U/L. A GGT level of 68 U/L represents a mild elevation. This may result from chronic excessive alcohol consumption, certain medications, or a high-protein diet, which typically does not indicate a severe condition.

2. Serious

Elevated GGT may be serious if caused by conditions such as extrahepatic bile duct obstruction, pancreatitis, or primary liver cancer, potentially posing life-threatening risks. It is recommended to follow appropriate medical treatment under a doctor's guidance.

When GGT levels are elevated, avoid using medications blindly to prevent further liver damage.
