Itchy red spots appear on the neck after sweating.
Itching and redness on the neck after sweating may be related to factors such as sweat irritation, prickly heat (miliaria), or eczema, and appropriate treatment should be administered accordingly.
1. Sweat Irritation
When sweat accumulates on the neck, it may irritate the skin, causing itching and redness. It is recommended to wipe away excess sweat promptly. If clothing becomes soaked with sweat, change into dry clothes. Additionally, calamine lotion may be used under a doctor's guidance.
2. Prickly Heat (Miliaria)
In hot weather, increased sweating on the neck may lead to blocked sweat ducts, causing sweat to become trapped beneath the skin and triggering an inflammatory reaction known as papules, often accompanied by itching. Under medical guidance, treatments such as talcum powder or essential balm (e.g., wind oil) can be applied.
3. Eczema
Prolonged exposure to moist conditions may lead to eczema, resulting in redness and itching on the neck after sweating. A doctor may recommend topical medications such as mometasone furoate or desonide cream. During treatment, maintain clean and dry skin.
In addition, conditions such as tinea corporis (ringworm) and contact dermatitis may also cause redness and itching on the neck after sweating. It is advisable to wear breathable cotton clothing to help prevent these symptoms.
