Introduction
Frequent gurgling sounds in the abdomen refer to bowel sounds. These sounds may be caused by physiological factors, but could also result from pathological conditions such as indigestion or intestinal obstruction. If a patient loses weight excessively or has irregular eating habits, leading to insufficient intestinal contents and abnormally rapid intestinal motility, bowel sounds may occur—this is considered a normal physiological phenomenon.

Frequent gurgling sounds in the abdomen refer to bowel sounds. These sounds may be caused by physiological factors, but could also result from pathological conditions such as indigestion or intestinal obstruction. Specific causes are analyzed as follows:

1. Physiological Factors

If a patient excessively loses weight or has irregular eating habits, leading to insufficient intestinal contents and abnormally rapid intestinal motility, bowel sounds may occur. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. Consuming easily digestible foods such as millet porridge or noodles can help.

2. Pathological Factors

1) Indigestion

Consuming a wide variety of foods or excessive amounts of hard-to-digest food in daily meals may increase the digestive burden on the stomach and intestines, causing food to accumulate in the intestines. When this food interacts with intestinal bacteria, gas is produced. If the gas is not expelled, it can create audible sounds.

2) Intestinal Obstruction

When there is an excessive amount of intestinal contents that become blocked and accumulate within the intestine, intestinal obstruction may develop, resulting in difficulty passing gas or stool. When large amounts of gas cannot be expelled from the body, they may cause gurgling noises inside the intestines.

Additionally, conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome or chronic gastroenteritis cannot be ruled out as potential causes. It is recommended that patients visit a local hospital for systematic evaluation to determine the underlying cause before proceeding with further treatment.
