Introduction
Vaginal discharge changes in consistency throughout the menstrual cycle. Before menstruation, increased hormone levels lead to increased volume and thicker, more viscous discharge. Inflammatory reactions in the vaginal area can also cause increased and thickened discharge due to stimulation by inflammatory products, often accompanied by symptoms such as odor and itching. In cervical inflammation, the inflammatory stimulus results in yellowish, thick, paste-like or gluey discharge.

Vaginal discharge refers to secretions from the vagina. When vaginal discharge becomes thick and paste-like, it may be caused by physiological factors or pathological conditions such as vaginitis or cervicitis. The specific causes are analyzed as follows:

1. Physiological Causes

The characteristics of vaginal discharge change with the menstrual cycle. Before menstruation, increased hormone levels can lead to increased volume and thicker consistency of discharge. This is typically odorless and asymptomatic, representing a normal physiological phenomenon.

2. Pathological Causes

1) Vaginitis
Inflammatory reactions in the vaginal area can stimulate excessive production of thick discharge due to inflammatory exudates. It is often accompanied by unpleasant odor and itching. Treatment may include medications such as Honghe Fuyan Wash Solution, Metronidazole suppositories, or Tinidazole suppositories, used according to medical advice.

2) Cervicitis
Cervical inflammation causes local congestion and swelling of the cervix. Inflammatory stimulation leads to yellowish, thick, paste-like discharge. Medications such as Kangongyan tablets, Xiaomi suppositories, or Baofukang suppositories may be used under medical guidance.

In addition to the above, such discharge could also result from pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis, or endometritis. It is recommended to avoid sexual intercourse temporarily and seek timely evaluation and treatment from a gynecologist to determine the underlying cause.
