Is it normal for urine to be clear and colorless?
Clear and colorless urine is considered normal if caused by physiological factors, but abnormal if due to pathological causes. The specific analysis is as follows:
1. Normal
If increased fluid intake in daily life or excessive consumption of fruits and vegetables—both physiological factors—lead to higher urine production by the kidneys, resulting in diluted urine and reduced concentrations of various metabolic waste products, this is a normal physiological phenomenon. There is generally no need for concern, as it does not cause discomfort and does not require specific treatment.
2. Abnormal
If clear urine is caused by filariasis or obstruction of the perirenal lymphatic ring, it is considered abnormal. This condition may occur when chyle fails to enter the bloodstream through the normal lymphatic system, instead flowing backward into the renal hilar lymphatics and rupturing into the kidney's collecting system, forming a lymphatic fistula. When chyle enters the urine in this way, it results in chyluria, which is an abnormal condition. In such cases, medical evaluation at a hospital—including physical examination, chyluria testing, and retrograde pyelography—is necessary for diagnosis.
After proper diagnostic evaluation, if chyluria is confirmed, mild cases may resolve spontaneously without treatment. However, more severe cases require medical treatment under a doctor’s guidance, such as taking medications like diethylcarbamazine citrate tablets or furazolidone tablets.
